NSW Junior Rugby, Bathurst Bulldogs Rugby Union Club and Bathurst Regional Council are pleased to announce that the 2021 Positive Rugby Foundation NSWJRU City vs Country Carnival will be held at Ann Ashwood Oval, Bathurst on Sunday the 1st August 2021.
The Positive Rugby Foundation NSWJRU City vs Country Carnival is an NSW Junior Rugby event that sees the best players in each age group from NSW Country Zones and Sydney Junior Rugby Union Districts representing Sydney and Country in the annual grudge match.
The event will bring a vast number of rugby people from all over NSW to Bathurst for the weekend, and Bathurst Regional Council have been actively involved in supporting bringing this signature event to the region.
Mayor of Bathurst Bobby Bourke said we are proud to support this event and we are looking forward to welcoming the teams and their supporters to our region.
“Our city boasts some of the best sporting facilities this side of the mountains and hosting events such as the Positive Rugby Foundation NSWJRU City vs Country Carnival bolsters Bathurst’s reputation as a destination for large events.”
Held across the Under 14 to Under 18 age groups the teams from Sydney and NSW Country will compete for some quite historic trophies. With a number of these trophies named after well known Central West Rugby personalities. This year is to be the first time that the U14 Girls will compete at this level – an announcement on this trophy will be coming in a few weeks. The Trophies are;
· U14 Boys – Tim Gavin Shield
· U14 Girls – Sponsors (Positive Rugby Foundation) Plate
· U15 Boys – Steve Tuynman Cup
· U16 Boys– Ella Cup
· U16 Girls – Mahalia Murphy Shield
· U18 Boys – Michael Brial Cup
· U18 Girls – Grace Hamilton Shield
It is also a great opportunity for the local Bathurst Rugby Club to not only showcase themselves but as hosts of the event to raise some funds for their local club.
Bathurst Bulldogs President Phil Newton said “We love being able to host events such as this. It represents to top of the Rep pathway for many of our junior players and to have it showcased on our home ground is fantastic.“
NSW Junior Rugby Union President Ben Gregory went on to say “Our City v Country Carnival is one of our oldest traditions and Bathurst is such a superb venue to host such an important event for us.”
“Bringing such games to our Country clubs is an important part of our process. We were last in Bathurst for this carnival in 2015, and with such facilities as Ann Ashwood we just want to keep on coming back”.
