NSW Juniors alongside their affiliate bodies of SJRU, NSW Country and NSW Schools are creating a new Junior Coach Scholarship Program designed to help educate and train new rugby coaches. Supported by The Rugby Club Foundation the program is open to both male and female new coaches (young and old) that are looking to begin rugby coaching.
No experience is necessary, just a keen attitude and a desire to coach junior rugby. If you are currently helping coach a team then great, but if you require our assistance to find a local side for you to join - we can also help across all our associations.
The program will fund your education which includes a Foundation Course to attain a Level 1 coaching certificate. We will install a Mentor coach whom will guide you through the coaching journey (one of our mentors is Waratahs Head Coach Darren Coleman). There will also be ongoing training with the NSWRU Coach Ed dept.
Each new coach will also be placed in an apprentice type role with a Rep team to learn the skills required for coaching at the next level. This will be across all associations.
The new coaches will also have access to the ne Coaching App which will help with session planning across all age groups.
Each new Coach will also receive a special NSWJRU Coaches kit to identify their involvement in the program
The program aims to develop ‘new’ coaches for club rugby as well as then up-skilling these coaches to be able to take their coaching to a Representative level.
This will help the affiliates with filling these coaching roles as an Assistant Coach initially but in subsequent years they will have further options as Head Coaches within their programs.
The “Scholarship Coaches” will receive quality education and training to get them on the road to a successful coaching career. And this will be enhanced by an assigned ‘Mentor’ who will provide regular feedback on their coaching plans and progress.
As part of the deal the “Scholarship Coach” will agree to contribute to the Affiliate’s Rep programs as part of their development.
